Pitt-Johnstown Reserve Officers' Training Corps

The Warrior Battalion is proud to have a cross-town Army Senior Reserve Officer's Training Corps (ROTC) program at UPJ. The Warrior Battalion is hosted out of the Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP), with cross-town programs at UPJ, Mount Aloysius College, and Saint Francis University. Our program has produced several Second Lieutenants out of UPJ and we hope to continue to grow our progam here at UPJ!

What is Army ROTC?

The ROTC program has two phases: The Basic Course is usually taken during the freshman and sophomore years of college, with zero obligation of service incurred to the program or the Army. It involves the study of Army history, organization, and structure. Students can expect to learn basic military skills, such as rifle marksmanship, first aid training, and land navigation. The Advanced Course is typically taken in the junior and senior years, and it focuses on tactical operations and military instruction. Management, leadership, and command techniques are stressed throughout both courses. Students can also expect to participate in daily physical fitness training four times a week during the fall and spring semesters.

What can Army ROTC do for me?

Eligible students can receive scholarships for full tuition and fees, in addition to a book allowance and a monthly stipend; alternatively, students can receive a scholarship covering room & board. There are two-, three-, and four-year scholarship packages available, as are exceptional benefits for medical schools. Students awarded these scholarships are obligated to attend training sessions and classes, as well as perform military service after graduation.
