Pitt Day of Giving Livestream

PITT JOHNSTOWN IS A SPECIAL PLACE

GIVE TODAY!

Pitt-Johnstown serves nearly 3,000 students and our 22,000 of the 300,000 Pitt alumni who make a difference in our world every day.

On this day of giving, we thank you for joining the Pitt-Johnstown family to play an active role in the future of Pitt-Johnstown and the success of those who live, work and learn here! Your gift will help support scholarships, bridge the financial gap for students facing unexpected costs and short-term emergencies or support a program, organization or initiative that is meaningful to you.

With your help we will, once again, place in the School & College Leaderboards, which would mean thousands more in Pitt matching funds for our top three finishing featured funds! With your help we will exceed that in 2021. The Leaderboards are based on participation, meaning the number of unique donors who give to us, not dollar amount, so get involved and help us spread the word far and wide!

Thank you for your support, and remember to embrace and enjoy your world!

SCHOLARSHIP FUND

With your help, Pitt-Johnstown students are provided a pathway to a college education and are given the opportunity to become the next generation of leaders and problem-solvers. The most meaningful way to remove financial obstacles and break through the barriers faced by deserving students is by growing our student scholarship fund. Our students need your help more than ever. We are asking you to join us by making a gift.

AREAS OF GREATEST NEED

Your gift to Unrestricted Support is instrumental in meeting unforeseen needs and fueling our growing campus community and programs. This year, more than ever, your gift will help those who live, work and learn here!

CLARK STRAUSSER STUDENT RESOURCE FUND

For most Pitt-Johnstown students, a job is how they cover basic necessities: groceries, rent and transportation. Following state-wide orders, many campus offices are now closed — most of which employed students. Many students working off campus have also lost their jobs. With those lost jobs, students have lost the wages they were counting on. These students are at greater risk of dropping out when faced with a crisis. The Student Resource Fund was started by Pitt-Johnstown professor emeritus, long-time friend and donor, Clark Strausser, to help students facing unexpected costs and short-term emergencies, such as the sudden loss of a part-time job. Now more than ever, our students are requesting help due to housing displacement, the loss of a job, food insecurity and technology needs. Gifts to the Student Resource Fund will be used to defray the unexpected and increased financial hardships so they can keep learning.

STUDENT LIFE ACTIVITIES

Supports one significant on-campus improvement benefitting 3,000 students, to be determined by the student body via the student Government Association.

ATHLETICS GENERAL FUND

Pitt-Johnstown is proud of its rich legacy of athletics excellence. A member of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC), the largest one-state conference in the NCAA, Pitt-Johnstown is proud of its growing body of accomplished and nationally recognized athletes, including the talented and decorated Athletic Director and Head Wrestling Coach, Pat Pecora, who holds the national record as the winningest coach across all divisions. Gifts to this fund support competitive sports programs and helps seed the campaign for a new weight room for our athletes.

SERGEANT BASERMAN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Named in memory of Sergeant Mark Baserman, a corrections officer killed in the line of duty, this Scholarship provides support for undergraduate students enrolled in our Justice Administration and Criminology Program. Support for this endowed scholarship will ensure that Sergeant Baserman’s legacy lives through the lives of deserving students who follow this honorable academic and career path.

VETERANS RECOGNITION

For the 10th consecutive year, the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown has been named to the coveted Military Friendly School list for supporting military personnel transitioning into civilian life. Through its signature Mountain Cat Veterans Program (MVP), Pitt-Johnstown serves current and former members of the US Armed Forces by offering accelerated admission review, priority registration, deferred tuition payments, credit evaluation, and designated points-of-contact in key administrative and student services departments. Your gift to the Veteran’s Support Fund will help our MVPs with unforeseen costs of college and with their transition from military service into the classroom.

RON VICKROY SCHOLARSHIP FUND

Ronald Vickroy (a.k.a. “Mr. V.”) was a Johnstown native, husband, father, grandfather, friend, colleague, veteran, community leader, golfer, and Pitt-Johnstown professor who touched the lives of countless students during his 27 year tenure in the business department. His strong work ethic, sense of humility, and an eagerness to learn are just a few of the lessons Mr. V. taught his students. He was truly a UPJ legend, who, long after his retirement, still stayed in touch with the almost 450 alumni whose lives he’s forever changed. Your generous donation to the Ronald Vickroy Fund will provide financial support to a full-time undergraduate student(s) enrolled in the business program at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown and help them achieve success in their academic and professional lives.
