The club raised money on campus and throughout the community to raise awareness for congenital heart defects as these ailments cause more child deaths than cancer.
Each month, the club “adopts” a child in our area and buy the child gifts to help them forget about their disease, at least for a moment. The parents were given a gift card for gasoline since these diseases are treated out of our region.
The club also entered a competition through the Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation and won $2,000 to donate to the Children’s Heart Foundation PA chapter. These students held a 5K on campus in April that drew about 300 participants. Prior to the start of the 5K, the families assisted by the club had an opportunity to thank those who have supported them through this cause. The club raised $5,015 in its first year.
