The University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown aims to provide a welcoming environment to international students by being a home away from home.
Each year a number of professors and faculty members join the host family programs in welcoming new international students. Each host family volunteers to host several international students as a way to broaden the students’ experience.
Families and students get together for activities ranging from having a home-cooked meal in the host family’s home, to more adventurous activities such as apple-picking, fishing, or trips to the zoo.
In addition to professors and faculty members, our student mentor programs are formed by American students and other international students who are interested in other cultures.
During the first semester, each international student is paired with a mentor who helps the new international student to adjust to local cultures by doing activities together.
