The community is invited to join The University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown for a Veterans Day tribute at The Heroes Memorial.
The tribute will include the laying of a wreath to honor the memory of the service men and women who were killed in Afghanistan and Iraq. Members of the Pitt-Johnstown MountainCat Veterans Program will be participating in the tribute.
Nestled behind the J. Irving Whalley Memorial Chapel, The Heroes Memorial pays tribute to those who died on September 11, 2001, as well as the service men and women who have been killed in Afghanistan and Iraq. At the center of the memorial is a 3,500-pound steel I-beam from the World Trade Center, which was attacked on September 11.
The first-of-its-kind memorial was dedicated on November 11, 2011, and is the site of an annual Veterans Day ceremony.
